In a matchplayed on Thursday September 20, Makerere University and KIU shared the spoils in basketball and Volleyball as KIU rose to the occasion in football.
Makerere ladies were humbled by KIU 28-43--and Makerere men convincingly overpowered KIU with 55-46.
Makerere ladies volleyball team fought a tight game against KIU to win 2-0 with the second set closely competed for. It was never all done as KIU men volleyball team sweetly revenged the ladies loss after winning a decider against Makerere with 2-1. KIU had an edge of celebration for the day after winning 1-0 against Makerere in football.
After a fairly calm first half with a few clear opportunities, KIU clearly killed the game off in second half with a decisive pass to Adune Moses which gave him a one to one opportunity with the Makerere Keeper. He dribbled thekeeper and tacked the lone winning goal into the net.
Scares arose of a devastating injury after excessive contact of Adune and the keeper in the process of scoring but he later recovered. The goal was scored just a few minutes to the final whistle and disorganized the attacking prowessof Makerere to the end.
In the ladies volleyball, MAK won KIU by 2-0with straight sets of25-22, 25-27 in the first and second set of the game.
MAK’s Pajije Sharon’s outshining performance made her the lady of the match with good saves, blocks and net game reading.
In the men’s volleyball, Makerere University was at the helm of the game when it outplayed KIU in the game that was very competitive. Later, the game took a surprise twist when KIU picked up and outshined with a 2-1 win. KIU’s Komaketh Innocent was the man of the match.
Makerere University made a comeback in a competitively played men’s basketball to win with a 55-46. It was more of individual skill than tact that won the game with Komakech Ben, leading the attack and Kariuki on the rebounds.
However, the ladies game went to KIU as the MAK ladies’ team lost 28-43. From the start to end KIU showed and exhibited their winning intentions by utilizing all their attacking opportunities with good rebounds both on offensive and defensive. Namukaya Barbara of KIU was the lady of the match with strong drives, high scores, and assists.
